New IBM Skills Training to Get Clients Up & Running on AI

We are at an inflection point.  Data Science and AI technologies are not just a continuum of old technologies. They represent a complete paradigm shift that take us from a deterministic world to a probabilistic world, increasing the potential to profoundly change human society, and to become a new engine of economic development.

Around the world, governments and businesses are implementing AI strategies to ensure readiness for a new round of industrial transformation, with the birth of new technologies, new products, new industries, new formats, and new business models.

Collectively, we have never had more access to powerful technologies, or to more massive amounts of data. However, a serious lack of skills for this rising discipline has become the most significant roadblock for AI adoption and implementation.

With so much opportunity, AI skills are becoming critical to economic development, business success, and individual empowerment. And the market has responded. To be sure, education offerings are on the rise, and the easy access to powerful Open Source technologies has contributed to remarkable growth in these skills.

But it’s not all about technology.

Building Enterprise AI solutions requires more than knowledge of the technology and AI field domain. It requires knowledge of the business environment and understanding of industry and client needs. It requires security, governance, and relentless focus on privacy.

It requires focus on AI safety and on AI ethics. It requires orchestration of multiple roles involved in the AI practitioner ecosystem: data analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and developers. And it requires continuous innovation.

We have made it a priority this year to share our wealth of resources with organizations around the world.

To that end, today we announced we are investing in a number of successive AI Learning and Certification programs and tools. The goal is simple: to share the years of IBM expertise in AI research and developing enterprise AI solutions with businesses looking to put AI to work.

As part of this work, we rolled out today two exciting offerings:

  • AI Learning Catalog – a free online learning catalog of AI research, solutions, and product experiences;
  • AI Learning Experience in-Lab Workshops – an immersive education experience designed to jump start clients’ AI journey. During a two-day, in-person and highly interactive education session, clients will learn the building blocks, tools, skill sets, data, architecture needed for AI, and then apply their learning to one of their own AI business problems.

This major effort builds on work we announced recently with The Open Group to help develop the first global certification program for Data Scientists, as well as our own brand new data science apprenticeship program. In the coming months, we will be releasing even more training and certification programs.
