The winners of the 2017 Computable Awards were announced on October 31^st during a spectacular award show in the Beatrix Theater in Utrecht. Winning three of the five project categories – together with our customers and partners – IBM was the big winner this year. At 31.4%, RAMLAB and IBM earned the highest average final score this year. The project ‘3D metal printer learns to think’ was the evening’s winner in the category ICT Project of the Year for small and medium-sized enterprises.

For the third year in a row, awards were given in five different product categories. To be nominated and win, projects had to pass through a tough jury phase. Candidates first submitted written justifications of their projects in an attempt to win an invitation to pitch their project to the jury of experts. After the presentations, the jury decided who would be eligible for nomination. The public then evaluated the nominees, though the jury verdict accounted for half of the final score in choosing the ultimate winners.

With RAMLAB, we won the category ICT Project of the Year for small and medium-sized enterprises. Together with RDW, Hanzehogeschool and Keylane we won for the category ICT Project of the Year for Government (BikeBlockchain) and together with Storm-Eindhoven, TU Eindhoven, NXP, TomTom, KPN and Itility, we won the category ICT Project of the Year for Education.

Winning three project categories, together with our customers and partners, is quite an extraordinary feat. What is the connecting factor behind this success? First of all, successful and interesting collaboration with multiple parties, secondly scoring high marks for originality and innovation, where complex material such as cognitive computing and machine learning function together at the front line of current technology and third, capitalizing on emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence.
