Sneak peek in the future

Obviously the teams will not disclose any details about their ideas as they are in fierce competition. So I ask one of the expert coaches, Leo Pols, Urban architect, for a glimpse of the future.
Cities have to do more with water; in the summer there’s a shortage of water, in the winter there is too much. According to Leo, a smart city collects the surplus of rainwater and stores it in areas nearby for recreational or irrigation purposes. Another visionary and unconventional idea of Leo concerns our dikes. ‘Let’s not make them higher, but broader and build houses on them’. Who would want to live there?, I think out loud. Leo has thought about this: ‘The dikes will be broad and strong and only be flooded rarely. The houses will be built to cope with flooding, with huge water proof metal gates and walls which can be closed during the flooding. The city of Hamburg has already experimented with this kind of urban development. Why not? Living in Amsterdam I will get wet feet anyway in the event of a flood.
