Vice President, North America Systems Hardware, IBM
Paulo Carvao is responsible for the sales and go-to-market strategy for IBM’s hardware business globally. He is also a member of IBM's Growth & Transformation Team; the company's senior leadership team that implements strategy, execution and transformational projects. Prior to being named Systems Hardware General Manager in 2016, Mr. Carvao managed IBM's Hardware business in North America from Jan 2013 to Dec 2015. From Oct 2009 to Dec 2012, he was head of global sales for IBM Mainframes. In addition to managing the profitable growth of the product line, he also oversaw the global executive team responsible for the entire System z stack, including hardware, software, services and financing assets. From Oct 2007 to Sep 2009, Mr. Carvao served as IBM Software Group Vice President for WebSphere Foundation Sales and led the worldwide sales team for IBM's WebSphere Application Infrastructure portfolio. And from Apr 2004 to Sept 2007, he was responsible for World Wide System z Software Sales. With more than 30 years of IT industry experience, Mr. Carvao first joined IBM in Brazil in 1985 as an engineering trainee. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from IME (Brazil), Masters in Marketing from PUC (Brazil), and has attended Executive Education at Wharton on Finance and Human Resources. He is married and has two children.
