William Starke is the IBM Distinguished Engineer currently serving as Chief Architect/Engineer for the POWER10 microprocessor. Bill has been employed by IBM for over 30 years in several roles, spanning mainframe and Power systems performance analysis, logic design, and microarchitecture. Over the past two decades, his innovation and leadership have been focused on the cache hierarchies; coherence architectures and scaling capabilities; memory, I/O, and accelerator architectures; and system architectures underpinning several generations of Power Systems. Bill's work has resulted in the balanced scaling, RAS, energy efficiency, and performance characteristics that have established Power as the dominant platform for virtualization, consolidation, and mission critical AIX, IBM i, and enterprise Linux deployments, as well as the world's most powerful supercomputers.
